InfoWorks ICM and Info360 Asset are both Autodesk products for wastewater and stormwater networks, and they come up in the same sales conversations, so people compare them. They do different jobs. ICM is a hydraulic model that predicts how a network behaves in a storm. Info360 Asset is a cloud application that holds inspection and condition records for pipes and turns them into risk scores and a repair plan. A utility can run either one without the other, and some run both.
What is the difference between InfoWorks ICM and Info360 Asset?
InfoWorks ICM simulates the flow in a network; Info360 Asset manages the condition of the pipes that carry it. ICM answers questions such as where a sewer surcharges, where an overflow spills and which streets flood in a 100-year storm, using a 1D network linked to a 2D ground surface. Info360 Asset answers questions such as which pipes are in the worst structural condition, which would cost most if they failed, and what to rehabilitate first. ICM is desktop software, with optional cloud databases and cloud simulation, used by hydraulic modellers. Info360 Asset runs in a browser and is used by asset managers, inspection teams and the contractors who upload CCTV surveys.
What does Info360 Asset do?
Info360 Asset keeps a water or wastewater utility's pipe inventory together with its inspections, and turns those inspections into condition grades, risk scores and rehabilitation plans. On its product page Autodesk lists these parts:
- Inspection upload and review. Field crews upload CCTV video and images, the app shows which inspections and media arrived and which are missing, and reviewers can add, edit or delete observations while watching the synchronised footage.
- Defect coding checks. A validation engine checks inspections against national coding standards and flags data problems.
- Condition scoring. Overall, structural and O&M grades for each pipe, with each observation shown at its position on the pipe.
- Risk. Likelihood of failure and consequence of failure scores, added or multiplied together, with risk grades set on a linear scale or a 5×5 matrix. The inputs can include condition, material, age and repair history.
- Rehabilitation planning. Decision trees that turn risk scores into repair and replacement plans, with cost comparisons between rehab options.
It also links to outside tools. A VAPAR integration reviews CCTV footage with AI, an ITpipes SmartVision integration brings inspection data in, and since April 2026 Info360 Asset and Info360 Insight draw their maps on the Esri ArcGIS Location Platform.
How do InfoWorks ICM results get into Info360 Asset?
ICM sends its Return Period Analysis reports. Since InfoWorks ICM 2025.3, the RPA grid report has an "Export Info360" button that uploads the report to Info360 Asset. An RPA grid report summarises how a drainage system performs across a set of design storms, such as the 1-year, 10-year and 100-year events: flows, velocities and water levels, the parts of the network at risk of flooding, and whether each pipe has the capacity for each storm. The same release added Asset ID and surcharge due to flow to the report. Autodesk describes the purpose as seeing how the drainage system performs under different rainfall in relation to asset management data.
This is the only route from ICM that Autodesk documents. We found no ICM equivalent of the per-pipe failure analysis that WS Pro sends, described next.
How does InfoWorks WS Pro send results to Info360 Asset?
WS Pro sends the results of its Critical Link Analysis, which answers a different question. Critical Link Analysis simulates the failure of each pipe in a supply network in turn and records the properties affected, the cumulative property hours without water and a cost for each pipe. Since WS Pro 2025, that report can be exported to Info360 Asset, where it appears on a simulation tab and feeds consequence of failure components such as customers affected and cost. InfoWater Pro results for flow, pressure and velocity can be used the same way, for example to find pipes under high pressure or with low velocity.
So the two models feed different halves of the risk score. The supply model tells the asset manager what a pipe's failure would cost customers. The drainage model tells them which pipes run out of capacity in a storm.
Who buys InfoWorks ICM and who buys Info360 Asset?
Hydraulic modelling teams buy ICM, and asset management and inspection teams buy Info360 Asset. ICM users are drainage and flood modellers at utilities and councils, and the consultants who build and maintain catchment models for them. Info360 Asset users are the people who run CCTV inspection programmes and capital plans; Autodesk's case studies include Orange County Sanitation District and the consultancy GHD, which uses it to manage CCTV inspection data and run risk and rehabilitation analysis. The two are often bought by different departments of the same utility. For ICM licence costs per study, use our InfoWorks price calculator.
Do you need both?
Only when the hydraulic model is meant to shape the capital plan. A team that inspects pipes and plans rehab by condition can use Info360 Asset with no model at all. A team that studies flooding and overflows needs ICM and may never open an asset register. The two meet when a utility wants pipe replacement priorities to reflect capacity as well as condition, which is the case the RPA export was added for.
Is Info360 Asset the same as InfoAsset Manager?
No. InfoAsset Manager is Autodesk's other asset management product for water and wastewater networks. It brings together GIS, hydraulic model and maintenance system data, comes with InfoAsset Online and InfoAsset Mobile for web and field use, and works alongside ICM and WS Pro. ICM can import network data directly from an InfoAsset Manager collection network. Info360 Asset is the cloud product built around inspections, risk and rehab planning.
Where does InfoDrainage fit?
InfoDrainage designs the drainage for a single site, and ICM analyses the whole catchment. That is Autodesk's own one-line summary in its InfoDrainage or ICM guidance. InfoDrainage is built for detailed design of traditional and sustainable drainage and for the outputs an approving authority asks for, with round-tripping to Civil 3D, hydraulic and energy grade lines on long sections, FHWA culvert analysis and HEC-22 inlet calculations. ICM imports InfoDrainage IDDX files, so a site design can be dropped into a catchment model. We found no direct link from InfoDrainage to Info360 Asset in Autodesk's documentation. We compare InfoDrainage with the other drainage tools in stormwater modeling software compared.
What are the alternatives to Info360 Insight?
The alternatives to Info360 Insight are other operational analytics platforms, not ICM or Info360 Asset, because Insight does a third job. It connects SCADA, IoT and lab data, tracks measures such as water loss, energy, chemical use and compliance, raises alerts on anomalies, and runs incident workflows that identify affected customers and test outage scenarios. Its automated calibration works through InfoWater Pro. The products it competes with, such as TaKaDu, Aquasuite and Siemens SIWA, are compared in digital twin software for water utilities compared. If the real need is a cheaper sewer or supply model rather than analytics, see InfoWorks ICM and WS Pro alternatives, and for how ICM and WS Pro split the network, InfoWorks WS Pro vs InfoWorks ICM.
Smart Bhujal resells none of these products; we build and run drainage models, set out on our stormwater modeling page.
Frequently asked questions
Can InfoWorks ICM send results to Info360 Asset?
Yes. Since InfoWorks ICM 2025.3, a Return Period Analysis grid report can be uploaded to Info360 Asset with the "Export Info360" button. The report covers how the drainage network performs across a set of design storms, including flooding and capacity.
Is Info360 Asset a hydraulic model?
No. Info360 Asset manages pipe inspections, condition grades, risk scores and rehabilitation plans. It does not simulate flow, but it can take results from InfoWorks ICM, InfoWorks WS Pro and InfoWater Pro and use them in its risk scores.
What is the difference between Info360 Asset and Info360 Insight?
Info360 Asset is for the condition and risk of pipes and the capital plan that follows. Info360 Insight is for day to day operations: sensor, SCADA and lab data, KPIs, alerts, incident response and compliance reports. Both are Autodesk cloud products and both now use Esri maps.
