InfoWorks WS Pro and InfoWorks ICM are both Autodesk products, both came from Innovyze (which Autodesk bought in 2021), and they share a workgroup database server. They are not two editions of one program. They model different networks, and most teams need one or the other, not both.
What is the difference between InfoWorks WS Pro and InfoWorks ICM?
InfoWorks WS Pro models pressurised water supply networks: the pipes, pumps, valves and reservoirs that deliver drinking water. InfoWorks ICM models the networks that take water away: sewers, stormwater drains and the rivers they discharge to, including flooding across the ground surface in 2D. A WS Pro model answers questions about pressure, flow and water quality at the tap. An ICM model answers questions about overflows, surcharge and flooding.
What InfoWorks WS Pro is for
WS Pro descends from InfoWorks WS, launched by Wallingford Software in 1999. It covers demand allocation, pressure and flow analysis, pump and valve control, fire flow at each hydrant, flushing, water quality and emergency response planning. Its natural users are water supply teams at utilities and the consultants who maintain their distribution models.
Paired with IWLive Pro, a WS Pro model can run against live SCADA data and become an operational model of the network, which we cover in digital twin software for water utilities compared.
What InfoWorks ICM is for
ICM, short for Integrated Catchment Modeling, puts the sewer network, the rivers it discharges to and the 2D ground surface it floods into one model. It is the established tool for sewer and drainage models at large UK water companies, and it can also run networks in the SWMM engine, which matters when a client or regulator expects SWMM results.
Since June 2025 Autodesk has sold ICM in three editions. ICM Sewer covers sewer and stormwater networks. ICM Flood gives an unlimited 2D mesh but caps 1D and 1D-2D networks at 1,000 nodes. ICM Ultimate has everything with no node limit.
How much do they cost?
Autodesk announced list prices of US$5,500 a year for ICM Sewer and US$7,500 a year for ICM Flood. Autodesk does not publish an Ultimate price. WS Pro is listed by an authorised reseller at about US$10,000 a year. All figures were checked in September 2026, are per seat, and change; confirm a current quote. Our InfoWorks price calculator turns these into a cost per study for your team size.
Can one model move between them?
No, not in any useful sense. Both products can store models on the same Workgroup Data Server, which helps a utility that runs both keep its data in one place. But a supply network and a sewer network are different physical systems with different equations, so there is nothing to convert. A utility that models both maintains two models.
What about Info360?
Info360 is Autodesk's set of cloud products that sit beside the desktop models. Info360 Asset is asset management for water and wastewater pipes, and both WS Pro and ICM can send model results to it, so asset managers can rank pipes by how hard they are worked, not just by age. Info360 Insight is operational analytics and incident management. Neither replaces the hydraulic model; they use its results.
Which one do you need?
If the question is pressure, supply, fire flow or water quality in a drinking water network, WS Pro. If it is sewer overflows, drainage capacity or urban flooding, ICM, in the edition that matches the size of the network and whether you need 2D. If you are a consultant serving UK water companies, the client usually decides, because extending their existing model is cheaper than rebuilding it.
If neither licence fits the budget, the free engines behind each job, EPANET for supply and EPA SWMM for drainage, are covered in InfoWorks ICM and WS Pro alternatives and EPANET vs SWMM.
Smart Bhujal delivers network studies in InfoWorks, EPANET and SWMM, set out on our water distribution modeling and stormwater modeling pages.
